James Young, 44, of Barrie, ON, passed away on September 3, 2012 with his wife Tina by his side after a long battle with Chron’s and Colitis, and Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (a rare liver disease). He was born October 8, 1967 in Prince Albert, SK and raised in Spruce Grove, AB, the son of Arnold and Patricia (Haugland) Young.
At a young age, he discovered his passion for flying and was soon to follow in his father’s footsteps to become a pilot. While working in construction and building custom homes, he attended NAIT in Edmonton, AB, all while starting his flight training. He moved through several northern Canadian communities gaining the experience necessary to advance to Bearskin Airlines in Thunder Bay, ON and then on to the national airlines where he was employed by Air Canada Jazz.
He always said his office had the best view. If he could not fly it, then he drove it. James took an active interest in Jeeps and Motorcycles. He truly loved to ride and bring everyone together to do it. He will be greatly missed by his ‘Riding’ families. James is lovingly remembered and survived by his wife Tina (Zanandrea) Young; his parents Arnold and Patricia (Haugland) Young; sister Judy and her husband Gary Deans; sister Tami Young; sister Tricia Pearson; niece Hayley Deans; nephew Tyler Pearson; niece Sarah Pearson; and his in-laws: her parents Dino and Liisa Zanandrea; brother Steven Zanandrea and his partner Anna Nicks; brother Paul Zanandrea and his wife Melissa Harvey; and numerous Aunts, Uncles, cousins and friends.
We have lost this important and influential member, suddenly and tragically this past week. Swapnil knew everyone in the Ottawa Chapter, was highly respected for his riding skills and loved for his friendly, open personality. He was incredibly devoted to his family and would bring his kids to the meet and greet to share his passion with them. They would sit and have dinner, while CMC friends wandered by his table and engaged him in conversation.
He walked the talk and his riding was all about safety. He was a serious guy only when he was leading a ride. These rides mostly happened at some early hour of the morning on the way to breakfast, in places like Calabogie or Hawkesbury. He would be finished breakfast, be done with the 511 and back home with his kids before any of the rest of us had cracked open an eyelid. He told me that he loved watching the sun come up while on the road. From the first “tales of the road” he posted on the forum when he joined us, to the day he left us, there was always a great story. A story told with that famous grin of his, a grin somewhere between happy and mischief.
This club is smaller today with his absence, but in missing him many of us have resolved to continue where he left off. To get out and ride with the same passion that he did. To hold onto a love of quiet open roads, the smell of a gentle mist on the fields, the power of the machine that let’s us fly, but mostly for the gift of watching the sun come up another day. A Swapnil kind of day.

Larry Smith - CMC Member #61001 Larry was an example of those legendary bikers you hear about from years gone past, the Indian Larry, Easy Rider types who rode for the enjoyment of the open road, not caring about rules, time or anything but their ride.Larry Smith was as genuine and real as a person can be and there are not very many of his kind around. You may not have liked to hear some of the things he had to say, but he said them TO you, not about you behind your back. He didn’t pretend to be anything he wasn’t. Larry was Larry and he didn’t care if you liked it or not.He was one of the most fearless (not the stupid kind) and accomplished riders I’ve ever met. There was literally nothing he could not do on a bike and you developed a feeling of security around him, regardless of whether he was clowning around or not. CMC022 will carry on with Larry’s favorite ride through the Kootenay Valley in British Columbia every May Long Weekend as the Larry Smith Memorial Ride and all of our charitable collections will be donated in Larry’s memory to the Motorcycle Ride For Dad annually, since this was the charity that Larry was passionate about.Larry you will live on in our hearts and memories and many of us will try to carry on with the passion you showed for life and for riding.Ride on our friend.

Jim Sanderson - CMC Member #63003 It is with great sadness I have to report the death of our good friend Jim Sanderson. Jim had just spent 3 wonderful days visiting with us (Bob & Doreen Hall) in Peachland BC. He had just attended the ISRA Rally in Kamloops where he had enjoyed the festivities. Heading home thursday morning Aug. 9th he crashed his bike in the rain on some gravel near the Banff Jasper corrider. Jim succumed to his head injurys last night in Calgary hospital.Jims wife Sue was with him at the hospital. She can be contacted by e-mail at suzy1227@telus.net . Jim was a great friend and rdiding buddy and will be sadly missed. I will post more as I know it. Bob Hall 250-767-2132, bdhall@telus.net Jim was one of the “originals”. With many miles of riding together I was shocked to find out that Jim never made it back from our trip to southern B.C. Jim, Darryl and Marlene & I had just riden down to Kamloops and spent three days at the National Yamaha Northern Stars Cruise-In and were joined there by Darcy, Bruce, Lewis & Jeff. Then Jim and Marlene & I rode down to visit Bob Hall in Peachland. Bob & Jim were very close and had much in common.. Jim was by himself riding back to G.P. last Thursday, as Marlene & I had left on Wednesday to continue our ride.Jim was a cautious rider he was always one of those chosen to ‘Lead’ the group though the corners and turns. At no time, (during the thousands of miles that we’ve riden together) did he ever ‘pull a stupid trick’ or make a bad decision…he was one of the ‘safest’…a true ‘rider’. That he slid out on gravel on wet asphalt on his trip back home, is hard to believe, as I’ve riden with him during bad road conditions/the rain, and he always slowed up and rode safe. Whenever we were on the road and he was unable to go, someone would notice and say, “where’s Jim”? He was part of ‘the group’, and one of the originals as I previously mentioned. He was with us at the first Northern Stars Cruise-Ins at Nordeg as well as the 2nd Cruise-In at Rocky Mountain House. We always had a great time at the Cruise-In’s but this last one, at Kamloops, was one of the best for Jim. He was in his element having lived in the area and he took great pride pointing out all that was good to see and re-living his past with us.He will be remembered as a soft spoken giant of a man who rarely had a negative thing to say about anyone, (some noted politicians exempt). Talk to any of the riders, Jim was one of us, was well liked, and will be sorely missed. He was a wealth of information and would take the time to volunteer to help someone put driving lights on their bike or help repair/fix something that was loose or broken. He knew about bikes, racing cars and could tell you stories that went back many years about NASCAR or Indian Motorcycles among many others.Yes Jim will be remembered and missed and I know he’ll look out for us from above. He’s just doing his riding somewhere else now – and if you look close, there’s a lot of curves, hills & valleys up there in the clouds where he’s enjoying his new ride.Bye for now Jim from all your friends & riding buddies,- Robin (Kicker)CMC 063 Grand Prairie.
